One day Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi,
“Let me go out into the harvest fields to pick
up the stalks of grain left behind by anyone
who is kind enough to let me do it.”
Naomi replied, “All right, my daughter, go ahead.”
Ruth 2:2
Ruth didn't sit around sad and depressed about not having her Boaz (whatever you're desiring from God). Ruth got up and WORKED! She worked on the purpose God had for her. Ruth was a foreigner in a land where she only knew her mother-in-law, she was a widow, and she had no kids. She had nothing! It would have been so easy for her to moan and groan about her circumstances, but she didn't. Ruth stayed FOCUS!
What I like about Ruth is her humility. Ruth 2:3 says, "So Ruth went out to gather grain behind the harvesters. And as it happened, she found herself working in a field that belonged to Boaz, the relative of her father-in-law, Elimelech." When Ruth went out to work, she gathered grain behind people. She didn't try to manipulate her way to the top, and she didn't become envious of the others who were progressing ahead of her. Ruth understood her position and worked. Some of us may feel like we're behind right now. We may feel like everyone we know is progressing ahead of us, but rest assure God has your best interest in mind. Look at Ruth! While she was WORKING and FOCUSING on her purpose, Boaz then noticed her (Ruth 2:5). Ruth didn't have to do the most to get his attention. She didn't have to do anything! When we allow God in our lives and decide to move forward, He can then position us. God positioned Ruth and then Boaz noticed her while she was WORKING. What are you working on? Is your mind on the wrong thing when it should be on working your destiny (Philippians 4:8)? Once again Ruth worked! She wasn't concern with what the next was doing or what the next had. She WORKED on her purpose. Ruth was hard at work (Ruth 2:7). What are you hard at doing? What is it that you're putting your energy into?
The rest of Ruth chapter 2 pretty much talks about how Boaz found favored on her. He found so much favor on her that he told her in verse 23 to come back to work alongside the women in his field. Wait, I don't think you caught that. In the beginning of Ruth chapter 2, Ruth found herself working behind the other harvesters. Now in verse 23 it says, " So Ruth worked alongside the women in Boaz’s fields and gathered grain with them until the end of the barley harvest. Then she continued working with them through the wheat harvest in early summer. And all the while she lived with her mother-in-law." I could leap for joy reading that scripture. You may have found yourself in what looked like last place but that's alright. Your job is to trust in God and the plan He has to bring you to the forefront. Let Him position you so that in His perfect timing you will have what you desire. God is great and His love for us is unfailing. I find peace when I remind myself that God isn't a mediocre God. He desires to continually take us to new levels. So why are you worried about not having your Boaz (whatever you're desiring from God)? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life (Matthew 6:27)? Get to WORK! Let God position you to receive the blessing. God will see that your work is not in vain.
