Now What?

Then Naomi said to her, "Just be patient, my
daughter, until we hear what happens.
The man won't rest until he
 has settled things today."
Ruth 3:18

We've been discussing Ruth and so far we've seen her go through some transitions. Ruth made the decision to not look back at all that she had lost, but to move forward. In moving forward God has began to find favor on Ruth in so many ways. She is letting God position her to receive her blessings. Now in chapter 3, Ruth is beginning to learn another lesson about how God works things out for your good. Let's get into it!

Alright so I won't lie, Ruth chapter 3 puzzled me for a while. I wanted to get revelation on this chapter so I prayed about it continuously. In verse 1 we read that Naomi tells Ruth that it is time to find a permanent home for her (Ruth 3:1). We see Naomi giving Ruth instructions on what to do next. I've learned throughout my life that when it comes to God's plan for us He doesn't give us the entire plan. He gives us pieces of the plan so that we can continue to develop faith in Him. Once we grasp one aspect of the plan He gives us the next. So now God is giving Ruth the next step to her purpose. I didn't understand why Naomi would have Ruth uncover Boaz's feet and then lie down there. In my limited thinking, I would think of that gesture being something of a provocative one. After doing some research I found out that the gesture Ruth made was not known to be provocative in that day. This was understood as an act of total submission.

In that day, this was understood to be the role of a servant, to lay at their master's feet and be ready for any command of the master. So when Naomi told Ruth to lie down at Boaz's feet she told her to come to him in a totally humble, submissive way. Now does this mean for you in today's society to start laying at everyone's feet? Of course not! I think what this means for us as believers in today's society is to lay at the feet of the throne. God wants you to come to His throne in a totally humble, submissive way. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the price. The price that we could now come to God on our own and submit to Him. Now we don't have to throw ourselves at the mercy of others to get what we desire. Our job is to totally submit to God. The Bible says "seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need (Matthew 6:33)."

Ruth 3:11 says, "Now don't worry about a thing, my daughter, I will do what is necessary, for everyone in town knows you are a virtuous woman." When we go to God with our problems or desires He wants us to know that He will take care of everything. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you (I Peter 5:7). Once we give our cares to God, its time for us to develop patience. Then Naomi said to her, "Just be patient, my daughter, until we hear what happens. The man won't rest until he has settled things today (Ruth 3:18)." Ruth had to be patient and believe that God would redeem her family. She had to trust that if God gave her a plan, He had everything in His hands. See, what God has for you doesn't include you manipulating or beating down walls to get it. When God has a plan for you it includes you just resting in Him. I've learned that resting in Him means trusting in Him. It doesn't mean to not do anything but it means that you surrender to the One Above waiting for Him to give you direction. Trust that if He has brought you to this place in your life that He knows exactly what He's doing. God knows who and what He needs to get that plan in motion. You say, "Devin its hard to be patient" and I definitely know the feeling. But its even harder to do it on your own. So rest in God! Trust that His way is the best way. Keep doing what God has already instructed you to do while He reveals the next step into your purpose.

Don't Cash Out on Your Blessing

My favorite pizza spot is Domino's Pizza. So much so, I worked there in high school for about....seven months. That's a pretty long time for a high school student in my opinion. Talking to my friend about life situations, he randomly asked me if I had ever heard the story of the brothers who owned Domino's Pizza. I'll be honest with you and say, "although I worked for Domino's Pizza I never took the time to learn their history." So of course my response to him was a big fat "no." Well, in 1960 two brothers by the name of Tom Monoghan and James purchased DomiNicki, a pizza store in Michigan. After just eight months of taking over the ailing pizza store, James wanted out. He owned 50% of the business and cashed out by trading his half to his brother Tom for a Volkswagon Beetle the brothers had bought as a delivery car. In 1965, Tom renamed the business Domino's Pizza. Two years later, the first Domino's Pizza franchise store opened. B...

Worth the Wait

So I've had braces a little over a year now and if you've had braces before you know the struggle can become real, especially after a visit from getting them tighten. Having your braces adjusted can cause some mild pain and discomfort, since it puts pressure on your teeth. As the teeth are under pressure, bones and tissues are breaking down. The teeth and their supporting structures are then able to begin moving again, continuing the process of slowly moving the teeth into their desired positions. I'm able to tolerate the shifting, discomfort and pain because I know the pressure is for my good. Every now and then I find myself examining my teeth to see if any progress has been made. In some places, I see an enormously amount of change. Other areas, not so much but I know something is happening.  As I examine what I think to be slow progression, I begin to think of the change and seasons in my own life. How much is my life evolving? When will this happen or when wi...

Just Right!

Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him." Genesis 2:18 "You're so pretty, smart, and career oriented but why are you single? What's wrong with you? You must be picky!" As a 24 year old who will be 25 in a couple of weeks, I've been hearing this a lot lately. So much that when I go to my quiet place I ask myself, "is the reason that I'm single because I'm picky?" I was taken to Genesis 2 in my reading time one morning and I read, "Then the LORD God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him (Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭18‬ NLT)." I kept reading this verse because I realized that even in the beginning God desired so much for us! Even down to us not being alone. God is not blind to the fact that man doesn't want to be alone. He even said that it wasn't good. In the second portion of that same scr...
