I Don't Want To Go Back, I Want To Go Forward

16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to
leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go;
wherever you live, I will live. Your people
will be my people, and your God will be my God.
Ruth 1:16

I mentioned in my last blog post that I love the book of Ruth. Once you get pass the most obvious story that everyone tells you as a child there is so much revelation. So, if you're patient God will give you your Boaz. Great! Now that we've pass that, we can continue to dive deeper in this story.

The above scripture gives me so much life! Basically, Naomi has decided to go back to her homeland. She's telling her daughters-in-law, "look go back to your homeland Moab. I have nothing to offer you." Sure enough Orpah and Ruth are devastated by this but Orpah decides to take Naomi's advice and goes back to Moab, but not Ruth. Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God (Ruth 1:16). As I read this scripture I hear a woman who has a made up mind. Ruth had a made up mind that she didn't want to go back, she wanted to go forward. How many of us have ever been in Ruth's shoes? You're at a point in your life where you say there has to be more. God has to have something better for me. I'm tired of doing the same thing over again. I don't know about you, but I can relate to Ruth in so many ways. I've been in that place in my life where I've said, "I don't want to go back, I want to go forward." Ruth 1:18 reads, "When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she said nothing more." Ruth had to be pretty determined to not go back to her homeland like Naomi suggested. Ruth was so determined to not go back that Naomi couldn't do anything but get quiet. When people are constantly reminding you of your past, you have to stand your ground and not look back. Fight the temptation! When you have a made up mind to not look back no matter what, they have no choice but to become quiet. I'll put it this way. When Satan sees that you have a made up mind to not look back, he won't have a choice but to get quiet (flee from you). So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).

Reading this book, I've realized that I'm too afraid to look back. I'm too afraid to find out that I've missed out on something great only because I kept going back. I want to be just like Ruth and decide that there has to be more to life than what I'm living. When we let go there lies the joy of us finding our Boaz (whatever you're desiring from God). Whatever it may be you will never know if you do not decide to make that step. Ruth deciding to not go back was the first step she had to make long before she had to decide to be patient. I find peace in knowing that if I make a decision to not go back to my past or old ways of doing things God can then move in my life. Join me in making the first step in letting God move by not going back but moving forward. Like the song says, "You make all things new and I will follow You forward." I believe that God is doing a new thing and He wants to position us all to receive our blessings, but we have to make the move forward and not look back. If where you are in life was good for you it would be evident. You would see things moving in your life. In the case that its not move forward, stop looking back and trust that its in God's hands.

Don't Cash Out on Your Blessing

My favorite pizza spot is Domino's Pizza. So much so, I worked there in high school for about....seven months. That's a pretty long time for a high school student in my opinion. Talking to my friend about life situations, he randomly asked me if I had ever heard the story of the brothers who owned Domino's Pizza. I'll be honest with you and say, "although I worked for Domino's Pizza I never took the time to learn their history." So of course my response to him was a big fat "no." Well, in 1960 two brothers by the name of Tom Monoghan and James purchased DomiNicki, a pizza store in Michigan. After just eight months of taking over the ailing pizza store, James wanted out. He owned 50% of the business and cashed out by trading his half to his brother Tom for a Volkswagon Beetle the brothers had bought as a delivery car. In 1965, Tom renamed the business Domino's Pizza. Two years later, the first Domino's Pizza franchise store opened. B...

Worth the Wait

So I've had braces a little over a year now and if you've had braces before you know the struggle can become real, especially after a visit from getting them tighten. Having your braces adjusted can cause some mild pain and discomfort, since it puts pressure on your teeth. As the teeth are under pressure, bones and tissues are breaking down. The teeth and their supporting structures are then able to begin moving again, continuing the process of slowly moving the teeth into their desired positions. I'm able to tolerate the shifting, discomfort and pain because I know the pressure is for my good. Every now and then I find myself examining my teeth to see if any progress has been made. In some places, I see an enormously amount of change. Other areas, not so much but I know something is happening.  As I examine what I think to be slow progression, I begin to think of the change and seasons in my own life. How much is my life evolving? When will this happen or when wi...

Just Right!

Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him." Genesis 2:18 "You're so pretty, smart, and career oriented but why are you single? What's wrong with you? You must be picky!" As a 24 year old who will be 25 in a couple of weeks, I've been hearing this a lot lately. So much that when I go to my quiet place I ask myself, "is the reason that I'm single because I'm picky?" I was taken to Genesis 2 in my reading time one morning and I read, "Then the LORD God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him (Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭18‬ NLT)." I kept reading this verse because I realized that even in the beginning God desired so much for us! Even down to us not being alone. God is not blind to the fact that man doesn't want to be alone. He even said that it wasn't good. In the second portion of that same scr...
