So You Say New Year, New You

Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.‭ Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭10 So only two days until the new year rolls in and if you take a look at your social media outlets your timeline will more than likely be swamped with people saying something like "new year, new me" or I'm leaving this or that in the old year. What's crazy about this is that just as many post as you see of "new year, new me" you will see people saying something like "here comes the new year new me crap" or "new year, same me." I'm not here to press judgement but it bothered me on both ends of the spectrum. I mean shouldn't people want to change? Shouldn't there always be some type of progress in a person's life? At the same time, what's the point of saying you're changing if you always stay the same? As I recall people in the Bible, I think about how their whole lives were centered ar...

Me, Myself, & God

But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.      O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.      I have called you by name; you are mine. 2  When you go through deep waters,      I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty,      you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression,      you will not be burned up;      the flames will not consume you. Isaiah 43:1-2 Here's an exercise for you. Read the above scripture once more but replace "Jacob" and "Israel" with your name. How does that make you feel? Well I can tell you how it makes me feel. It makes me feel loved and reminds me that I am NEVER alone. Yes, there may be times when you may feel alone but God is with you through it all. I look at loneliness as a stage in the process. For example, imagine the mother who i...

It Wasn't Rejection

"Then I can't redeem it," the family redeemer replied,  "because this might endanger my own estate. You redeem the land; I cannot do it." Ruth 4:6 So we've reached the last chapter of Ruth. In chapter 4 we see Boaz doing exactly what he told Ruth he would do. We find Boaz at the town gate waiting to see the family redeemer, who is more closely related to Ruth's family than he is (Ruth 3:12-13). When Boaz sees the family redeemer he goes on to tell him about the fortune he could acquire through Naomi. After Boaz explains it, the family redeemer is all in. But once he understands that he would have to marry Ruth as well, he quickly changes his mind. In verse 6 the family redeemer tells him, "Then I can't redeem it," the family redeemer replied, "because this might endanger my own estate. You redeem the land; I cannot do it (Ruth 4:6)." As I read the scripture above I began to think about rejection. Have you ever bee...

Now What?

Then Naomi said to her, "Just be patient, my daughter, until we hear what happens. The man won't rest until he  has settled things today." Ruth 3:18 We've been discussing Ruth and so far we've seen her go through some transitions. Ruth made the decision to not look back at all that she had lost, but to move forward. In moving forward God has began to find favor on Ruth in so many ways. She is letting God position her to receive her blessings. Now in chapter 3, Ruth is beginning to learn another lesson about how God works things out for your good. Let's get into it! Alright so I won't lie, Ruth chapter 3 puzzled me for a while. I wanted to get revelation on this chapter so I prayed about it continuously. In verse 1 we read that Naomi tells Ruth that it is time to find a permanent home for her (Ruth 3:1). We see Naomi giving Ruth instructions on what to do next. I've learned throughout my life that when it comes to God's plan for us ...

Get Going

One day Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go out into the harvest fields to pick  up the stalks of grain left behind by anyone  who is kind enough to let me do it.” Naomi replied, “All right, my daughter, go ahead.” Ruth 2:2       Ruth didn't sit around sad and depressed about not having her Boaz (whatever you're desiring from God). Ruth got up and WORKED ! She worked on the purpose God had for her. Ruth was a foreigner in a land where she only knew her mother-in-law, she was a widow, and she had no kids. She had nothing! It would have been so easy for her to moan and groan about her circumstances, but she didn't. Ruth stayed FOCUS!   What I like about Ruth is her humility. Ruth 2:3 says, "So Ruth went out to gather grain behind the harvesters. And as it happened, she found herself working in a field that belonged to Boaz, the relative of her father-in-law, Elimelech." When Ruth went out to work, she gather...

I Don't Want To Go Back, I Want To Go Forward

16  But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to  leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go;  wherever you live, I will live. Your people  will be my people, and your God will be my God. Ruth 1:16   I mentioned in my last blog post that I love the book of Ruth. Once you get pass the most obvious story that everyone tells you as a child there is so much revelation. So, if you're patient God will give you your Boaz. Great! Now that we've pass that, we can continue to dive deeper in this story. The above scripture gives me so much life! Basically, Naomi has decided to go back to her homeland. She's telling her daughters-in-law, "look go back to your homeland Moab. I have nothing to offer you." Sure enough Orpah and Ruth are devastated by this but Orpah decides to take Naomi's advice and goes back to Moab, but not Ruth. Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to  leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go;  wherever you live, I will l...

The Question

"With her two daughters-in-law she set out from the place where she had been living , and they took the road that would lead them back to Judah." Ruth 1:7 I absolutely love the book of Ruth. There are so many lessons that lie within this short book of the Bible. As I was reading the scripture above one day, a few questions arose in my heart. For instance, what road are we taking as individuals? Will that road lead us to peace or turmoil? Will it position us to receive blessings from God? Reading the first book of Ruth always gears me to think about if God ever intended for Naomi and her husband to leave Judah. Yes, there was a severe famine that came upon the land but as we read in Chapter 1 of Ruth it never says God told Naomi's husband, Elimelech to leave and live in the country of Moab. He pretty much just took off. It reminds me of how we just do things without consulting God. What would have happened had Elimelech waited to receive instruct...
