"Then I can't redeem it," the family redeemer replied,
"because this might endanger my own estate.
You redeem the land; I cannot do it."
Ruth 4:6
So we've reached the last chapter of Ruth. In chapter 4 we see Boaz doing exactly what he told Ruth he would do. We find Boaz at the town gate waiting to see the family redeemer, who is more closely related to Ruth's family than he is (Ruth 3:12-13). When Boaz sees the family redeemer he goes on to tell him about the fortune he could acquire through Naomi. After Boaz explains it, the family redeemer is all in. But once he understands that he would have to marry Ruth as well, he quickly changes his mind. In verse 6 the family redeemer tells him, "Then I can't redeem it," the family redeemer replied, "because this might endanger my own estate. You redeem the land; I cannot do it (Ruth 4:6)."
As I read the scripture above I began to think about rejection. Have you ever been looked over? Has someone ever said that they didn't want you or that you weren't good enough? I would imagine that Ruth may have felt this way had she been around to hear that conversation between Boaz and the family redeemer. But once again I love how God works everything out for our good. See, the family redeemer, who may I add doesn't even have a name in the Bible, didn't know all that God had in store for Ruth. Therefore he couldn't see her full potential. He thought that by marrying Ruth it would endanger his own estate. Little did he know Ruth would become the great grandmother of David, the lineage in which Jesus Christ, our Savior would come through.
You see it doesn't matter who rejects you. It doesn't matter about that man or woman who tells you they're not ready to be in a committed relationship or that job that doesn't offer you employment or promotion. God sees the bigger picture and He wants the best for you. Boaz was God's best for Ruth because he recognized the favor on Ruth's life. Because he recognized the favor on Ruth's life he would have a part in the marvelous plan of Jesus Christ coming to earth to save His people from sin. When God has a plan or purpose for you, no one can stand in the way of it. People may reject you but know that if it rejected you its not God's best for you. The person God has for you to marry won't be confused about committing to you. That person won't reject you. That employer won't deny you the job. They will recognize you and find favor on you. Don't be moved by what you don't see right now. Trust that God has the last say so.
1 John 5:14-15 says, "And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for." Are you certain that God hears you when you pray? Well act like it! Trust that God will give you the desires of your heart. Don't you dare stick around and make someone want to marry you. Don't you even try to beat down doors at that job. Focus on seeking God and being diligent in what He's already done in your life. He will see that your reward is great! I remember reading an article that said, you were not rejected but only redirected. Don't look at it as rejection but only as God redirecting you to something so much better.
