Don't Cash Out on Your Blessing

My favorite pizza spot is Domino's Pizza. So much so, I worked there in high school for about....seven months. That's a pretty long time for a high school student in my opinion. Talking to my friend about life situations, he randomly asked me if I had ever heard the story of the brothers who owned Domino's Pizza. I'll be honest with you and say, "although I worked for Domino's Pizza I never took the time to learn their history." So of course my response to him was a big fat "no." Well, in 1960 two brothers by the name of Tom Monoghan and James purchased DomiNicki, a pizza store in Michigan. After just eight months of taking over the ailing pizza store, James wanted out. He owned 50% of the business and cashed out by trading his half to his brother Tom for a Volkswagon Beetle the brothers had bought as a delivery car. In 1965, Tom renamed the business Domino's Pizza. Two years later, the first Domino's Pizza franchise store opened. B...

Don't Get Tricked Out Your Spot

So I’ve been working out quite a bit lately and to be honest I’m loving it! I’ve never been the type to say I love to exercise. Honestly, in the past the thought of it made me cringe. However, as I get older and realize just how important my health is, its important to me that I’m active in some sort of way everyday. This is the first time in forever that I’ve been consistent and I hope it continues. I typically upload things on social media and document my workout but since then, over the last month I’ve started receiving messages from friends and associates that I'm going too hard in the gym. Comments such as, "you’re going to drift away. You don’t have anything to work on. Why are you of all people exercising?” If you know me then you know I’m a pretty confident individual so of course it doesn't bother me because 1. I know that the people who are saying these things don't mean any harm and 2. I know that I’m working on a better me both spiritually and physically...

Worth the Wait

So I've had braces a little over a year now and if you've had braces before you know the struggle can become real, especially after a visit from getting them tighten. Having your braces adjusted can cause some mild pain and discomfort, since it puts pressure on your teeth. As the teeth are under pressure, bones and tissues are breaking down. The teeth and their supporting structures are then able to begin moving again, continuing the process of slowly moving the teeth into their desired positions. I'm able to tolerate the shifting, discomfort and pain because I know the pressure is for my good. Every now and then I find myself examining my teeth to see if any progress has been made. In some places, I see an enormously amount of change. Other areas, not so much but I know something is happening.  As I examine what I think to be slow progression, I begin to think of the change and seasons in my own life. How much is my life evolving? When will this happen or when wi...

Until You're Full

Have you ever read the story about Jesus feeding the five thousand with five loaves of bread and two fish? Reading this story again, I gained a deeper revelation than I had before. The story starts off with the apostles and Jesus deciding to go off to a quiet place to get some rest from all the people they had encountered. Jesus and the apostles left for their quiet place only to arrive to their destination with even more people waiting to hear a Word.   “But many people recognized them and saw them leaving, and people from many towns ran ahead along the shore and got there ahead of them. Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.” Mark 6:33-34 NLT What got me with this story is that these people were so anxious to hear a Word from Jesus. They were desperate to have an encounter with the Lord. Have you ever just needed to hear a Word fro...

Even In the Dry Season

In my last blog post, I talked about God building a foundation in your life with longevity in mind during the so called dry season in your life. Mediating on this more and more, I begin to do research on dry seasons. I came across a study on the difference between a rainy season and a dry season in a rain forest. Surprisedly, this study showed that trees in the rain forest were worse off in the rainy season. In the rainy season is when many leaves die, but relatively few new ones are produced. But in the dry season it is quite different. In the dry season the trees thrive; far more new leaves are produced than are shed, allowing the tree to benefit from the season’s increased sunlight. In the dry season they thrive! Seems a little bizarre that the trees would thrive in the dry season. When we as believers talk about going through a dry season, we talk about going through lack, disappointment, and uncertainty. But in the dry season in a rain forest the trees thrive! My God! In...

Laying the Foundation

It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock.  When the floodwaters rise and break against that house,  it stands firm because it is well built. Luke 6:48 I'm sure everyone has seen the construction of a new home before. Day after day constructors are able to take nothing and transform it into something. Do you know what it took to build this beautiful home? First and foremost there had to be a plan. A blueprint to what this beautiful home would look like. After the plan was complete, selection of the land took place. From selecting the appropriate land constructors had to clear and level the land so that the foundation could be dug. Clearing the land included cutting down trees, not only on the building site, but also removing any unhealthy or dead trees that were close enough to the house to do damage if they fell. Tree stumps and large rocks were also removed for the ground to be properly leveled. Once the land ...

God Wants to Meet You in Your Dry Place

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else,  and live righteously, and he  will give you everything  you need. Matthew 6:33 Have you ever felt as though you were in a dry place in your life? Things weren’t bad, but things weren’t as good as you knew they could be. You felt as though you were thirsty for more! In the Bible, we read of people who felt just like you. They needed to quench a thirst. In those times if you needed a supply of water you went to the well. Webster defines well as an issue of water from the earth :   a pool fed by a spring. The well is a symbolic factor in the Bible. In Biblical times, the well supplied people with water, but it also did more in some cases. Many times the people found refuge, security, and provision at the well. There were times when people found their blessings at the well. In the Bible, the well represented life, prosperity and abundance. The well represented fullness. When the people went to fetch w...
