What Does It Mean To Trust

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.
Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty
is as unsettled as a wave of the sea
that is blown and tossed by the wind.
James 1:6

I'm sure we are or have all been employed at a place of business at some point in our lives. What ever your job duties are you carry them out on a day to day basics in hopes of receiving an award. A paycheck that is! Every other week or however you get paid you expect that pay check to hit your account on payday. What astonishes me is that we don't think twice as we work whether or not we will receive our wages for all the work we've done. No, we work hard and expect the money to be in our accounts on the days the company has established payday. We expect our checks not to be a day late because in our minds we've carried our end of the deal right? Well this all dawned on me one night as I sat up and thought about trusting God more. You see we have all the faith in the world that our check will be available on payday, but when it comes to trusting God we find it to be a difficult task.

I instantly felt moved by this. How dare I put more trust in man supplying me a check for working than I trust my God. There are nights when I toss and turn worried about if this will happen or if that will happen. But not one time have I ever doubted the efforts of man when it comes to that pay check hitting my account. Some may say, "well that's not a big deal Devin," but it is. Don't you know that the earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. (‭Psalms‬ ‭24‬:‭1‬ NLT). God is in control and he wants us to put all of our trust in Him daily. We're suppose to have that same faith we have in the company we work for in God.

I have to brag a bit and say that I have some of the best friends ever. Its so important to surround yourself with friends who want more of God just as you do. I was talking to my best friend, Chuantae' one day and she told me this:

"Its easy to pray and "have faith" when everything is going your way.
The true test is, will you trust Him when it seems like he isn't there!
Just think about that game where you turn your back to your partner
and then lean back trusting that partner will catch you. Well it's easy to lean back
if he keeps on catching you, but what if he allowed you to fall? Is your faith
in him catching you going to remain the same or will it grow faint just
because you have only fallen once out of the thousands of times
 he's been there for you!"
- Chuantae' Nichols Brown

You see its never going to be easy to just put your trust in God solely, but believe me its durable. Just because you don't see what you've been praying for does not mean that God is not there right behind you waiting to catch you. Just like it takes you putting in hard work and your time to get paid, it takes work to receive our blessings from God. Working your faith means seeking God daily. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10;17). Reading His word and feeding your spiritual being makes you trust Him more. The Bible says “But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence (‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭7‬ NLT). God knows what we need. He hasn't forgotten about us but we must trust that if he said he would do it he will indeed do it. That's why the word tells us, "Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus (‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6-7‬ NLT). He does not get tired of you talking to Him.

If we possessed the same faith when it comes to our check hitting our account as we possess when it comes to God, I wonder how much closer we would feel his presence in our everyday lives. I wonder what God would instantly do for us if we trusted in him more and more each day. It's not enough for us to say we trust God but every chance we get we're doubting Him because of what we see or don't see. The more we seek God the more our faith in him is elevated. Don't let your faith waver through trials and tribulations. Rejoice during those times! I find that it is in those moments where I find new hope. Hope to keep going and know that God's plan is far greater than my plan. God breaks us down and builds us back up just like a potter breaks down and molds the clay. 2 Corinthians 12:10 says, "That's why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong." Cast your cares on God, meaning trust in Him to take care of what you're desperately praying for. He will take care of everything regardless of what it looks like. God has a way of working best through our mess so trust Him. It will all be worth it.

Don't Cash Out on Your Blessing

My favorite pizza spot is Domino's Pizza. So much so, I worked there in high school for about....seven months. That's a pretty long time for a high school student in my opinion. Talking to my friend about life situations, he randomly asked me if I had ever heard the story of the brothers who owned Domino's Pizza. I'll be honest with you and say, "although I worked for Domino's Pizza I never took the time to learn their history." So of course my response to him was a big fat "no." Well, in 1960 two brothers by the name of Tom Monoghan and James purchased DomiNicki, a pizza store in Michigan. After just eight months of taking over the ailing pizza store, James wanted out. He owned 50% of the business and cashed out by trading his half to his brother Tom for a Volkswagon Beetle the brothers had bought as a delivery car. In 1965, Tom renamed the business Domino's Pizza. Two years later, the first Domino's Pizza franchise store opened. B...

Worth the Wait

So I've had braces a little over a year now and if you've had braces before you know the struggle can become real, especially after a visit from getting them tighten. Having your braces adjusted can cause some mild pain and discomfort, since it puts pressure on your teeth. As the teeth are under pressure, bones and tissues are breaking down. The teeth and their supporting structures are then able to begin moving again, continuing the process of slowly moving the teeth into their desired positions. I'm able to tolerate the shifting, discomfort and pain because I know the pressure is for my good. Every now and then I find myself examining my teeth to see if any progress has been made. In some places, I see an enormously amount of change. Other areas, not so much but I know something is happening.  As I examine what I think to be slow progression, I begin to think of the change and seasons in my own life. How much is my life evolving? When will this happen or when wi...

Just Right!

Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him." Genesis 2:18 "You're so pretty, smart, and career oriented but why are you single? What's wrong with you? You must be picky!" As a 24 year old who will be 25 in a couple of weeks, I've been hearing this a lot lately. So much that when I go to my quiet place I ask myself, "is the reason that I'm single because I'm picky?" I was taken to Genesis 2 in my reading time one morning and I read, "Then the LORD God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him (Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭18‬ NLT)." I kept reading this verse because I realized that even in the beginning God desired so much for us! Even down to us not being alone. God is not blind to the fact that man doesn't want to be alone. He even said that it wasn't good. In the second portion of that same scr...
