Laying the Foundation

It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock.
When the floodwaters rise and break against that house,
it stands firm because it is well built.
Luke 6:48

I'm sure everyone has seen the construction of a new home before. Day after day constructors are able to take nothing and transform it into something. Do you know what it took to build this beautiful home? First and foremost there had to be a plan. A blueprint to what this beautiful home would look like. After the plan was complete, selection of the land took place. From selecting the appropriate land constructors had to clear and level the land so that the foundation could be dug. Clearing the land included cutting down trees, not only on the building site, but also removing any unhealthy or dead trees that were close enough to the house to do damage if they fell. Tree stumps and large rocks were also removed for the ground to be properly leveled. Once the land was cleared, the constructors began to dig a hole for the foundation. After the foundation was laid constructors could then begin to pour concrete and prepare to build this beautiful home. Within months a beautiful home stands strong.

Although I am not a professional on building homes it is evident that the building of the foundation is the most important step just as the foundation in your own life. Just like the plans for a beautiful home, God also has plans for you. He has a blueprint for your life. God began with a purpose then created you to fit the purpose. Because God has a plan for your life, He is especially particular in the building phases of your life and seeing that these plans come to fruition. I have heard of people saying they felt as though they were in dry seasons of their lives. They felt as though they were in a drought. But just like the builders who have to clear the land in order to build the foundation for that beautiful home, God has to make way to build the foundation to the marvelous life He has in store for you. In order for the constructors to lay the foundation they cut down trees, remove any unhealthy or dead trees. God does the same thing in your life. The Word says, “He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more (John 15:2 NLT).” God closes doors in your life that don’t produce the life He has for you. Whether its the relationship that isn't going anywhere, the friends that don't push you to your destiny or bad habits or addictions, God cuts it all away so that He can begin laying a foundation in your life. God knows that if you continue to live a certain way, it won't produce the kind of life He has for you. He knows that certain relationships, habits or addictions will eventually damage you.

Its important that we thank God for the dry seasons because it is only God making way to lay a foundation that will stand firm. A life that He ordained for you. The drought that you may be experiencing in life is only evidence that God is getting ready to reveal a new thing. He's clearing the land and making room for all that He has for you. Who builds a house on top of a house? Why would God build a firm foundation in the midst of turmoil? The Word says “Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted (Psalms 127:1).”  You should be at peace in knowing that God is building your home. God is building your life with longevity in mind. He's building a life for you that has substance. A life that will be able to stand strong during test and trials. Don't be so concern with the blessing that you rush through the building stage. Remain in faith knowing that God has already done everything! Your home (the thing you are desiring to come to fruition) will soon be built and it will be built on solid ground.

Don't Cash Out on Your Blessing

My favorite pizza spot is Domino's Pizza. So much so, I worked there in high school for about....seven months. That's a pretty long time for a high school student in my opinion. Talking to my friend about life situations, he randomly asked me if I had ever heard the story of the brothers who owned Domino's Pizza. I'll be honest with you and say, "although I worked for Domino's Pizza I never took the time to learn their history." So of course my response to him was a big fat "no." Well, in 1960 two brothers by the name of Tom Monoghan and James purchased DomiNicki, a pizza store in Michigan. After just eight months of taking over the ailing pizza store, James wanted out. He owned 50% of the business and cashed out by trading his half to his brother Tom for a Volkswagon Beetle the brothers had bought as a delivery car. In 1965, Tom renamed the business Domino's Pizza. Two years later, the first Domino's Pizza franchise store opened. B...

Worth the Wait

So I've had braces a little over a year now and if you've had braces before you know the struggle can become real, especially after a visit from getting them tighten. Having your braces adjusted can cause some mild pain and discomfort, since it puts pressure on your teeth. As the teeth are under pressure, bones and tissues are breaking down. The teeth and their supporting structures are then able to begin moving again, continuing the process of slowly moving the teeth into their desired positions. I'm able to tolerate the shifting, discomfort and pain because I know the pressure is for my good. Every now and then I find myself examining my teeth to see if any progress has been made. In some places, I see an enormously amount of change. Other areas, not so much but I know something is happening.  As I examine what I think to be slow progression, I begin to think of the change and seasons in my own life. How much is my life evolving? When will this happen or when wi...

Just Right!

Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him." Genesis 2:18 "You're so pretty, smart, and career oriented but why are you single? What's wrong with you? You must be picky!" As a 24 year old who will be 25 in a couple of weeks, I've been hearing this a lot lately. So much that when I go to my quiet place I ask myself, "is the reason that I'm single because I'm picky?" I was taken to Genesis 2 in my reading time one morning and I read, "Then the LORD God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him (Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭18‬ NLT)." I kept reading this verse because I realized that even in the beginning God desired so much for us! Even down to us not being alone. God is not blind to the fact that man doesn't want to be alone. He even said that it wasn't good. In the second portion of that same scr...
