God Wants to Blow Our Minds

Now the Lord God said, “It is not good (beneficial)
for the man to be alone;
I will make him a helper [one who balances him—
a counterpart who is] suitable and complementary for him.”
Genesis 2:18

 I’ve read the scripture above a few times. I’ve even blogged about this particular scripture before. While reading my devotion this scripture was one referenced and I thought to myself, “I really don’t want to read this again.” However, this time I decided to read it in the amplified version which always helps give me a deeper revelation of the Bible.

“Now the Lord God said, “It is not good (beneficial) for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper [one who balances him—a counterpart who is] suitable and complementary for him.” 19 So the Lord God formed out of the ground every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. And the man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper [that was] suitable (a companion) for him.”

I can imagine Adam looking around at all he had named and thinking to himself, “ok God you told me that it wasn’t good for man to be alone so where is this helper you promised me? Where is the person you said would be suitable for me?” Have you ever had a moment like Adam? Have you ever asked God when something was going to take place in your life or when He was going to give you the desires of your heart? I can tell you I have. The Bible says, God caused Adam to fall in a deep sleep and while Adam was asleep God went to work. Sleep is defined as to take rest in. Rest means the refreshing ease or inactivity after exertion (effort) or labor. So after Adam had labored and named all the animals while looking for that helper that God mentioned at the same time, God was probably looking at Adam laughing. Why? Because God had a plan for Adam and it wasn’t coming the way Adam thought it would come.

So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and while he slept, He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 And the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man He made (fashioned, formed) into a woman, and He brought her and presented her to the man. 23 Then Adam said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

In our own lives, we labor and we try to take matters into our own hands as it relates to the things we desire. We’re looking at God to do something one way, but God has plans to do it a totally different way that’s going to blow our minds. God blew Adam’s mind and he wants to blow yours. So after you’ve tried to go about the things you desire one way and you’re tired of getting the same results, I believe God is telling us to enter into His rest so He can do it His way. Adam had to enter into a state of rest for God to move. Rest also means relief or freedom, especially from anything that wearies, troubles or disturbs. What’s disturbing your peace? What are you worried about? What do you doubt won’t happen in your life? God is saying enter into my peace. The Bible says, “God will give us peace which surpasses all understanding.” God never intended for us to worry about how and when something will happen. God wants us to trust that He is in control. The Bible says, "My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says the LORD. "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” God can blow your mind just like He blew Adam’s mind. So the next time you’re tempted to look around and wonder when God is going to move in your life and give you the desires of your heart, remember that Adam had to enter into a state of rest for God to move. The same applies to you.

Don't Cash Out on Your Blessing

My favorite pizza spot is Domino's Pizza. So much so, I worked there in high school for about....seven months. That's a pretty long time for a high school student in my opinion. Talking to my friend about life situations, he randomly asked me if I had ever heard the story of the brothers who owned Domino's Pizza. I'll be honest with you and say, "although I worked for Domino's Pizza I never took the time to learn their history." So of course my response to him was a big fat "no." Well, in 1960 two brothers by the name of Tom Monoghan and James purchased DomiNicki, a pizza store in Michigan. After just eight months of taking over the ailing pizza store, James wanted out. He owned 50% of the business and cashed out by trading his half to his brother Tom for a Volkswagon Beetle the brothers had bought as a delivery car. In 1965, Tom renamed the business Domino's Pizza. Two years later, the first Domino's Pizza franchise store opened. B...

Worth the Wait

So I've had braces a little over a year now and if you've had braces before you know the struggle can become real, especially after a visit from getting them tighten. Having your braces adjusted can cause some mild pain and discomfort, since it puts pressure on your teeth. As the teeth are under pressure, bones and tissues are breaking down. The teeth and their supporting structures are then able to begin moving again, continuing the process of slowly moving the teeth into their desired positions. I'm able to tolerate the shifting, discomfort and pain because I know the pressure is for my good. Every now and then I find myself examining my teeth to see if any progress has been made. In some places, I see an enormously amount of change. Other areas, not so much but I know something is happening.  As I examine what I think to be slow progression, I begin to think of the change and seasons in my own life. How much is my life evolving? When will this happen or when wi...

Just Right!

Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him." Genesis 2:18 "You're so pretty, smart, and career oriented but why are you single? What's wrong with you? You must be picky!" As a 24 year old who will be 25 in a couple of weeks, I've been hearing this a lot lately. So much that when I go to my quiet place I ask myself, "is the reason that I'm single because I'm picky?" I was taken to Genesis 2 in my reading time one morning and I read, "Then the LORD God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him (Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭18‬ NLT)." I kept reading this verse because I realized that even in the beginning God desired so much for us! Even down to us not being alone. God is not blind to the fact that man doesn't want to be alone. He even said that it wasn't good. In the second portion of that same scr...
