Now the Lord
God said, “It is not good (beneficial)
for the man to be alone;
I will
make him a helper [one who balances him—
a counterpart who is] suitable and complementary for him.”
Genesis 2:18
I’ve read the scripture above
a few times. I’ve even blogged about this particular scripture before. While
reading my devotion this scripture was one referenced and I thought to myself,
“I really don’t want to read this again.” However, this time I decided to read
it in the amplified version which always helps give me a deeper revelation of
the Bible.
“Now the Lord God said, “It is not
good (beneficial) for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper [one who
balances him—a counterpart who is] suitable and complementary for him.” 19 So
the Lord God formed out of the ground every animal of the field and every
bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and
whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. And the man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the
air, and to every animal of the field; but for Adam there was not found a
helper [that was] suitable (a companion) for him.”
I can imagine Adam
looking around at all he had named and thinking to himself, “ok God you told me
that it wasn’t good for man to be alone so where is this helper you promised
me? Where is the person you said would be suitable for me?” Have you ever had a
moment like Adam? Have you ever asked God when something was going to take place in your life or when He was going to give you the desires of your heart? I can tell you I have. The Bible says, God caused Adam to
fall in a deep sleep and while Adam was asleep God went to work. Sleep
is defined as to take rest in. Rest
means the refreshing ease or inactivity after exertion (effort) or labor. So after Adam had labored and named all the animals
while looking for that helper that God mentioned at the same time, God was probably looking at Adam
laughing. Why? Because God had a plan for Adam and it wasn’t coming the way Adam thought it would come.
So the Lord God caused a
deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and while he slept, He took one of his ribs and
closed up the flesh at that place. 22 And
the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man He made (fashioned, formed) into a
woman, and He brought her and
presented her to the man. 23 Then Adam
said, “This is now
bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was
taken out of Man.”
In our own lives, we
labor and we try to take matters into our own hands as it relates to the things
we desire. We’re looking at God to do something one way, but God has plans to
do it a totally different way that’s going to blow our minds. God blew Adam’s
mind and he wants to blow yours. So after you’ve tried to go about the things
you desire one way and you’re tired of getting the same results, I believe God
is telling us to enter into His rest so He can do it His way. Adam had to enter
into a state of rest for God to move. Rest
also means relief or freedom, especially from anything that wearies, troubles
or disturbs. What’s disturbing your peace? What are you worried about? What
do you doubt won’t happen in your life? God is saying enter into my peace. The
Bible says, “God will give us peace which surpasses all understanding.” God
never intended for us to worry about how and when something will happen. God
wants us to trust that He is in control. The Bible says, "My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says
the LORD. "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” God can
blow your mind just like He blew Adam’s mind. So the next time
you’re tempted to look around and wonder when God is going to move in your life and give you the desires of your heart, remember that Adam had to
enter into a state of rest for God to move. The
same applies to you.

SO beautifully written!!!
