Have you ever been secretly jealous of someone? You know that look you give or the roll of the eyes as you read someone's post on Facebook or Instagram about their accomplishment or achievement. Maybe you're jealous of the coworker who just received a promotion and you feel like you deserved the promotion more. Maybe you're jealous of the person you feel is walking in their God given assignment and you're still sitting at home trying to figure out the next step. I'm sure some of us wouldn't admit if we had a little jealously in our heart toward someone, but its possible. Saul was a King in the Bible who had jealously in his heart. If you're familiar with Saul then you may remember him as the king who was extremely jealous of David. David had God’s favor over his life and Saul was very envious of this. No matter what David did God’s favor was upon him and Saul hated David even more. Saul’s jealousy would cause him to attempt to kill David on several occasions but because of God’s favor over David's life Saul never succeeded.
“A fool’s anger will kill him.
His jealousy will destroy him (Job 5:2 ERV).”
I believe that if Saul knew how detrimental the spirit of jealousy would affect his life he probably would have thought twice. Saul’s last days consisted of him praying to God to receive knowledge about what he was do regarding a large army that was about to come against him and his people. When Saul prayed to God he didn't receive any answers. The Bible says “He asked the LORD what he should do, but the LORD refused to answer him, either by dreams or by sacred lots or by the prophets (1 Samuel 28:6 NLT).” This ultimately resulted in Saul’s defeat and death.
“For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom.
Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic.
For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition,
there you will find disorder and evil of every kind (James 3:15-16 NLT)”
See God looks at the heart of man and I believe that when we have jealousy in our hearts God is saying, “I can't nor will I move in your life because of it.” How can you receive the things God has for you if you're steady looking at what the next person has that you don't have. God says jealously is earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. Wow! Saul was discontent with his portion. He didn't understand that he served the same God David served. He didn't understand that God loved him the same. What Saul didn't have that we as believers have today is Jesus Christ. Jesus came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. He didn't just die and rise from the dead to give certain people the desires of their heart. Jesus died so that we could all receive the desires of our heart. “And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is (Ephesians 3:18).” When you understand just how much God loves you, you won't be concern with what the next has because you will understand that God loves us all the same. When you feel jealousy in your heart my hope is that you will speak against the attacks of the enemy. Satan sees the angels working on your behalf. If he can get you to be discontent or full of jealously he will. Why? Because Satan understands that this ungodly spirit can block all that God has for you. My prayer is for us all to look to Jesus. Don’t be concern with what others have. Rejoice! Stay full of joy in expectancy of all that God has coming your way.
