The State of the Unknown

Have you ever been searching for more? You knew you were here for a purpose, but you didn't see fruition of this very truth. Usually when we search for more we’ve come to a place where we're so uncomfortable to the point of no return. We come to a place where we say, “God what's next? What's going to happen now? I need more!” Then suddenly we have this urge to just step out on faith and move. That move can be physical, spiritual, or emotional. Whatever it is, God could just be calling you to step out on faith and move.

“The LORD had said to Abram,
“Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family,
and go to the land that I will show you.”
Genesis 12:1 NLT

God was asking Abraham to move out of his comfort zone. Move from everything he had ever known including his homeland, his friends, and family. God wanted Abraham to move into a state of the unknown. What is the state of the unknown? The state of the unknown is the place of unfamiliarity.  For Abraham, the state of the unknown was a place that he knew nothing about. What is your state of the unknown? For you it may be starting that company or taking another job or even closing on that house. Your state of the unknown could be anything! God wants to show you who He is through the unknown. Think about it, the very essence of God is unknown, but we still aim to believe in Him. We still aim to have faith in Him. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is believing in the unknown. We look at stories in the Bible as foreign or mysterious but if we think about it these people are just like us.

In my limiting thinking, I can imagine Abraham wanting more. I can imagine him searching for God to do a new thing in his life and God then giving him instructions on how to receive all the things he had hoped for. Sometimes God has to get us to a place of the unknown so that we will rely solely on Him. God wants to get us to a place where we can receive all that He has for us. The Bible says, “When we were at Mount Sinai, the LORD our God said to us, You have stayed at this mountain long enough (Deuteronomy 1:6).” Some of us are staying in situations and places far too long. This is the season that God wants us to move! Get going! Do things you haven’t done before. Explore places you have never been before. God wants to elevate your mind and show you miraculous things. There’s something on the other side of your obedience to move into the state of the unknown. As you move God will then begin to give you the blueprint to your life. He will show you all that He has in store for you, but you have to be willing to move.

Don't Cash Out on Your Blessing

My favorite pizza spot is Domino's Pizza. So much so, I worked there in high school for about....seven months. That's a pretty long time for a high school student in my opinion. Talking to my friend about life situations, he randomly asked me if I had ever heard the story of the brothers who owned Domino's Pizza. I'll be honest with you and say, "although I worked for Domino's Pizza I never took the time to learn their history." So of course my response to him was a big fat "no." Well, in 1960 two brothers by the name of Tom Monoghan and James purchased DomiNicki, a pizza store in Michigan. After just eight months of taking over the ailing pizza store, James wanted out. He owned 50% of the business and cashed out by trading his half to his brother Tom for a Volkswagon Beetle the brothers had bought as a delivery car. In 1965, Tom renamed the business Domino's Pizza. Two years later, the first Domino's Pizza franchise store opened. B...

Worth the Wait

So I've had braces a little over a year now and if you've had braces before you know the struggle can become real, especially after a visit from getting them tighten. Having your braces adjusted can cause some mild pain and discomfort, since it puts pressure on your teeth. As the teeth are under pressure, bones and tissues are breaking down. The teeth and their supporting structures are then able to begin moving again, continuing the process of slowly moving the teeth into their desired positions. I'm able to tolerate the shifting, discomfort and pain because I know the pressure is for my good. Every now and then I find myself examining my teeth to see if any progress has been made. In some places, I see an enormously amount of change. Other areas, not so much but I know something is happening.  As I examine what I think to be slow progression, I begin to think of the change and seasons in my own life. How much is my life evolving? When will this happen or when wi...

Just Right!

Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him." Genesis 2:18 "You're so pretty, smart, and career oriented but why are you single? What's wrong with you? You must be picky!" As a 24 year old who will be 25 in a couple of weeks, I've been hearing this a lot lately. So much that when I go to my quiet place I ask myself, "is the reason that I'm single because I'm picky?" I was taken to Genesis 2 in my reading time one morning and I read, "Then the LORD God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him (Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭18‬ NLT)." I kept reading this verse because I realized that even in the beginning God desired so much for us! Even down to us not being alone. God is not blind to the fact that man doesn't want to be alone. He even said that it wasn't good. In the second portion of that same scr...
