As a child I couldn't wait to go to bed on Christmas Eve in preparation for Christmas Day to receive all the gifts my parents had in store for me. I would be so excited! I knew my parents had a lot in store for me because I had already given them a list of everything I wanted. I didn't have to do anything to get it, all I had to do was tell my parents what I wanted and prepare to open my gifts on Christmas Day. I’m here to tell you today that God has gifts for you too! The key to receiving all that God has for you is to simply rest. Simple enough right! The Bible says, “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him (Matthew 7:11).”
See
our parents weren't at Wal-Mart buying gifts on Christmas Day for us to open. Our
parents already had gifts hidden around the house or already wrapped under the
tree in store for us. It's the same with God. "God is not doing anything new, He
has already done everything." He's not in Heaven trying to figure out how you're
going to pay your bills. He's not trying to figure out how to give you that
promotion on your job. He’s not puzzled about how He’s going to give you a
significant other. He’s not even puzzled about your health. He has already done
it all. He just wants you to rest and receive it. Rest means relief or freedom, especially
from anything that wearies, troubles or disturbs. What’s troubling you? What
has you weary? God simply wants you to remain in peace until you see the very
thing you desire. The Bible says, “Be
still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10)." God doesn’t want you doing
the heavy lifting. He wants you to cast all of your cares on Him. The thing
about Christmas Day is we know its coming. No matter what Christmas Day is
coming. A child can’t rush this day to come no matter what they do or say. They
can stay up restless waiting on the day all they want but its not going to make
the day come by any faster. This same thing applies to you. The gifts God has
in store for you are on the way. You can pitch a fit. You can mourn and groan
about when the things you desire are coming all you want but it won’t make a difference.
God is in control. The only thing you have control over is whether or not you
will operate in faith or not. This holiday season I pray that we will all rest
in the fact that God knows all. He knows how to give us our hearts desires. God
has made everything beautiful in its own timing (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Lets trust
that His timing is perfect. When that day comes for you to open your gifts it
will be more than you could ever ask or think.
