But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent."
2 Peter 3:8-9
As a child, you
can remember going on family road trips, which consisted of long hours, stuck
in a car with occasional stops at resting areas and food joints. During that
trip your favorite four words to ask were, “Are we there yet?” You would
occasionally doze off into a deep sleep only to awaken and find that you hadn’t
reached your destination. As you slept or sat waiting restlessly you probably
missed out on all the cool things to view on a road trip. For instance, you
probably missed the horses and cows grazing through a field or the beautiful
lake you had to bypass in route to your destination. Much like children we as
adults have this same mindset when it comes to the things we are believing God
to do in our lives. We ask questions that begin with “when will this happen” or
“when will that happen?” Much like our younger selves we are so anxious and
impatient to get to that destination. Just like that road trip your life is a
process. God is developing and moving in your life but how are you riding this
ride out? Are you riding it out much like you did on the family road trip by
asking questions about when you would get to your designated place or are you
enjoying the scenery along the way?
I say all this
to say, “don’t rush the process.” Trust that God will truly do great things for
you. Will we like everything that comes during this process? Probably not! But
the Bible says, “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all
circumstances for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus (1
Thessalonians 5:16-18)." So when you don’t have the job you desire continue to
be thankful. When you’re not where you want to be financially continue to be
thankful. When you’re still waiting on promises to manifest continue to be
thankful. That scripture says be thankful in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, not just some
circumstances. During this process God is developing you before the promise is
revealed. Webster defines development as the act or process of growing or causing something to grow or become
larger or more advanced. God is advancing you in this time and place. But do
you trust that He is working behind the scenes on your behalf?
My prayer is
that we as believers learn to sit back and ride this ride out with God as the
driver. The A portion of Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God!" So just
chill!!! God got you! He’s the driver and you’re the passenger. Learn to be
patient during the process so that you can enjoy the scenery of this ride. Don’t
miss out on what God has for you during the process because you’re so stuck on
reaching the final destination. That scenery could be vital to your end result.
