How many of you can relate to going all in for Jesus when there's a need for something such as the new job, the promotion, the husband, the healed friendships and so forth and then when God does it you forget about Him. You're no longer waking up in the morning praying, you're not reading your Bible as much, and if you do you're not really taking anything in. You're kind of just going with the motion just so you can at least say you read something. What you and I have done is made other things idols. You've probably made that very thing you prayed for and received an idol. You're just like those darn Israelites. I can be honest and say I was wrecked by this. I'm thinking how selfish of me. The Bible says, 'You must worship no other gods, for the LORD, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you (Exodus 34:14)." I believe that God wasn't just talking about refraining from worshipping other gods such as golden statues in this scripture. I believe God also meant that we should not put people or things before Him. When you put people and things before God you are worshipping them. You've forgotten about what God has done and you've directed your attention else where. People and things are such terrible gods. Why? Because they are here today and gone tomorrow. But God is everlasting! When God says that He is a jealous God and that He is jealous about His relationship with you He means that He loves you so much and He wants all of you. I heard a pastor once say, "we have to be intentional about our relationship with God." We have to want God more than anything in this world.
I'll be honest and say that I find myself making people and things idols in my own life. When I feel myself doing that I get intentional about drawing closer to God. I don't take it for granted that every time I pray I feel God's warm embrace. If you seek Him, you will find. I don't take it for granted because I know that God doesn't have to meet me when I seek Him. The Bible says, "No one can serve two masters. You will either hate one and love the other (Matthew 6:24). Let's get intentionally about our relationship with God. Let's not make the things of this world our idol.
