Lately, I've been reading about Moses and the Israelites and I'm amazed at how through the most difficult situations God always shows himself to be true. In many scriptures in this story it's says God hardened Pharaoh's heart. Why would God allow his people to go through years of oppression and abuse at the hands of the Egyptians? Well, its the same reason God allows certain things to happen in our lives. Whether we put ourselves in certain predicaments or not, God allows certain things to happen for a reason.
If you're not familiar with Moses and the Israelites, I suggest you go back and read this amazing story in Exodus. However for the sake of getting to the meat of things, in Exodus 9 verse 13 we're at a point in the story where God has been sending all of these different plagues to Egypt but yet and still Pharaoh will not let the Israelites go. The Lord tells Moses to tell Pharaoh, "By now I could have lifted my hand and struck you and your people with a plague to wipe you off the face of the earth. But I have spared you for a purpose—to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth (Exodus 9:15-16 NLT). God is pretty much telling Moses to tell Pharaoh look! I could have got rid of you by now if I wanted. I don't have to send plague after plague on you and your people because I'm God but I'm actually using your stubbornness to prove a point and to show my people who I am.
The same thing applies to us! Things may occur in our lives but I believe that God allows those things to happen to show us that he is still in control of whatever we are going through. Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." It doesn't say some things, it says all things. So that's the good, the bad, the happy, and the sad. Honey, it's all for your good! It's all to help you mature in your walk with God and realize that you don't serve a mediocre God! You serve an awesome God! A God that can change your situation suddenly! The Bible says, "Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing (James 1:2-4 NLT). Yes, it may be tough right now or you may not be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel but I've found something to be try time and time again. That is, when we think God isn't doing much of anything that's usually when he's doing his greatest work. I'm simply here to tell you that God got you! No matter how it looks, God got you! I can't say that enough because it's so true. Jesus tells us in Matthew 10:29-31,“What’s the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don’t be intimidated by all this bully talk. You’re worth more than a million canaries (Matthew 10:29-31 MSG).
You mean everything to him and he hears your prayers and he sees your tears. God hasn't forgotten about you through these difficult times. Just like Moses and the Israelites, God has to show you who he really is. If Pharaoh had just let the Israelites go without a fight the Israelites would have never seen God's power at work. Had you never got fired from your job God would have never been able to provide you with a job that pays twice as much as you were making. Had that little boyfriend never left you or cheated on you, God wouldn't have been able to present the man he had always ordained for you. Remember God knows the end from the beginning so...pull yourself together and remember that God got you!
