The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
I shall not want.
Psalm 23:1
I think we're all familiar with psalm 23 in some form of fashion. However, recently I've gained a new understand of this chapter. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want (Psalm 23:1)." In order to fully understand what this verse means I had to first understand the job description and duties of a shepherd. Webster defines shepherd as a person whose job is to take care of sheep; they guide or guard (someone or something). Because the Lord is your shepherd, the one whose job is to take care of you, protect you and even direct your path do you not realize that you have all you need? Because of this one scripture you can rest assure that you are exactly where you're suppose to be in your life because of the one who leads you.
In John 10, I love how the scriptures explain the shepherd. The shepherd is recognized because he enters through the gate in verse 2. As soon as the gate keeper opens the door, verse 3 says that the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. The shepherd even knows the sheep by name. The Bible says, "after he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice (John 10:2, 4-5 NLT)."
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. My question to you is do you know your shepherd's voice? Do you know that everything you need is already available to you. The Lord, your shepherd knows exactly what you need and when you need it. Do you understand that the Lord, your shepherd knows you by name? The Bible says, "even the very hairs of your head are all numbered (Luke 12:7)." But once again I ask you, do you know your shepherd's voice? How can he direct you if you don't recognize his voice. In John 10 it said that the shepherd led his sheep and they followed the shepherd because they knew his voice. They knew his voice so well that they would not even think to follow a stranger. You have to know God's voice! I realize everyday that if I want to have peace and stay on the path that God has for me I have to know his voice. By knowing his voice I am enabled to follow the one who knows all things. Well, how do I know God's voice Devin? Well how do you know anyone's voice? You spend time with them. Begin to seek him each and everyday! I wake up reading the word and I go to bed reading the word because I understand that I can't do it on my own. I see that my efforts alone are nothing compared to God leading me. The Lord, my shepherd can get me to my destination while protecting me. So again, do you know your shepherd's voice? If not, now is the time to search for Him with all your heart. He's waiting for you!
Great Word Ms.Devin!!
